Well, I found my figures and it turns out that I only looked at MT xi touring models, and at least for the xis MTs make up a bit more than 15%. Here is what I found: BMW began making xit models for the US in April 2000. The first valid VIN numbers for xit cars are EN80002 and ET40001 both produced in 4/2000.

factory E46 trims I have owned: Gloss Black, Brushed Aluminum (twice), Alu Tec (aka Competition Package Aluminum) and at one time an AC Schnitzer Silver Carbon Fiber trim (aftermarket). I really like my ZCP Alu Tec trim presently. was only available for Coupes and only during the 2 year ZCP option.
The 1996 model year 5 series E39 was introduced into the US market in late 1995. Models available were the 528i with a I6, and the 540i with a M62 V8. 2. Again, there are some obvious misinformations given for the 99 model year. The "M SPORT" package is incorrect because it was NOT available until 2003.
